HIV/AIDS Pyschosocial Support Worker
Duration: 12
months,
Two
weeks training in Canada, orientation on the field and 11 months of
field work, with the option to applying for an extension.
Job Summary
- The Psychosocial Support officer will work with EIM staff
at
organizational level and at community level to develop and implement
appropriate counselling skills for those persons affected/infected by
HIV/AIDS.
- The job will begin with research into appropriate
counselling approaches in the Malawi context.
- This research will be adapted to a training program for
counsellors. Counsellors from among EIM staff as well as from among
community members involved in EIM projects will be trained as
counsellors.
- The culmination of these efforts will be the supervision of
counsellors in counselling with groups and individuals at community
level. If time permits, training of trainers will be the final task.
Requirements and Qualifications
- The successful intern will have prior knowledge of
psychological
wellbeing and understanding of counselling needs in grieving process.
- The intern must have experience in counselling.
- The intern must have previous experience and knowledge in
curriculum development and some experience in training.
- A willingness to learn, flexibility and the ability to
adapt to
frequently changing expectations and schedules is highly recommended.
- The successful intern must have an ability to work in
partnership with others in cross cultural situations.
- Candidate must agree with, and be committed to EIC's
mandate and policies.
